Although Tech Help LA generally suggests Apple or Chrome OS computers and laptops to our customers, there are still users who prefer to use Microsoft Windows computers. Not all Microsoft Windows computers are created equal so we have outlined the Windows systems that we recommend to customers looking to purchase a new Window PC.

What brand should I buy?

  • In our opinion, the brand of computer you purchase has little to do with our standard recommendations for buying a new Windows computer. We focus on the specs which matter the most. Brands like Dell, HP, and Lenovo are most commonly known and usually offer good prices direct or from retail stores locally and online.

Where should I buy a new Windows PC?

  • Local computer purchases are highly recommended for the convenience of a swift return if needed. You can also make purchases from local retail stores online to find good deals and still be able to pick up or return the computer conveniently. We suggest buying from Best Buy, Costco, and Fry’s Electronics stores nearby. You can find these stores locally and online.

  • Alternatively you can also feel comfortable buying direct from the manufacturer websites and having your new computer shipped. Ordering direct from manufacturer allows you to hand pick and customize the specs of your new computer if necessary. Standard preconfigured computers are also available that should work well for standard use.

Should I purchase and extended warranty?

  • Purchasing an extended warranty on any computer you buy is a must. Computers hardware can and will malfunction at a time that cannot be predicted. If your computer has mechanical failure under warranty the manufacturer or retailer will cover your repairs or offer a replacement at no additional charge. An extended warranty can be a lifesaver and save you money that would normally cost outside of a warranty period. It is always well worth the optional warranty cost to extend the standard warranty.

Do I need to backup my data?

  • Yes, at Tech Help LA we highly emphasize the importance of backing up your data either locally or even better in a secure cloud such as Carbonite, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or Dropbox. Even if your data is stored on a solid state drive you still should have a continuous and seamless data backup in place in case of a fire, theft, user error, or physical damage.
